Does this work with Samsung, Pixel and other Android phones?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser like Chrome works: Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi, OnePlus and the rest. There is no app to install and no account to create.
What replaced Android File Transfer on Mac?
Officially, nothing: Google discontinued the app in 2024 without a macOS successor. A browser transfer covers the wireless case, and the open-source OpenMTP app covers cable transfers if you prefer USB.
Where do the files end up on my Mac?
In the Downloads folder, like any browser download. Multiple files arrive as one zip, which macOS extracts with a double-click.
Do the phone and Mac need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
No. The transfer works over the internet, so the phone can be on mobile data and the Mac on home Wi-Fi. They just need to be online at the same time.
Is there a file size limit?
No. Files stream directly from the phone to the Mac without being stored on a server, so multi-gigabyte videos are fine. Larger transfers simply take longer.
Do I need USB debugging or developer mode?
No. This is a normal browser page, not a cable or ADB connection. Nothing on the phone needs to be enabled or configured.
